Calling Dibs, Jewel Throne Update, and Dungeons & Charity?

Firstly I formally call dibs for usage of the appellation "Thing Tome" for an OSR monster book; I'm not 100% sure that I'm going to attempt this endeavor (and I'm not about to commit to anything until I release The Jewel Throne) but, in the meantime, if you steal this name that makes you a nasty thieving gaga...

Regarding the Jewel Throne, all of the articles are in, I'm just waiting on some artwork (and I'm in no rush artist dudes...it's cool whenever they're ready :)) and than the layout begins.

One of the ideas I'm considering for the Jewel Throne PDF is releasing it as a modestly "app priced" download with the proceeds going to a worthwhile & non-politicized charity? I need to consult with the contributors regarding this conceit, but please let me know what you think of this idea?

If this proves fruitful, and I also proceed with the Thing Tome, than I'd like to also use it as a charity fundraiser.

  1. I entirely support the notion of the "app priced" download.

  2. This OSR community monster book idea has legs! If you do take up the mantle of Monster Maestro I suggest giving THING TOME a blog where people can submit ideas.

  4. THING TOME rules! Maybe you could get Ben Grimm to write the Preface. . . .

  5. Can I suggest a donation to your local food bank? Non-political, and everyone can agree that everyone needs to eat. 100$ at a cheap store like Aldi's (not sure if you have in Canada) goes a long way towards feeding some hungry people. I'll buy two :)

GO TO THE SHAREHELPERS MEET-ING AND ACT LIEK ASSHOLES (SHOUTS, PULL PANTSDOWN] UNTIL A THROWOUT IS NEEDED!!!!!

  7. Not to be a killjoy or anything, but I tend to be pretty leery of charities, and only give money to things I'm involved in. That way I actually know it goes to charity. (You try to send money to Haiti and it ends up in Bill Clinton's pockets, that sort of thing.) I don't want to support cause that isn't properly vetted.

Also, I don't know "app pricing," how much is that?

  8. Charity? But weren't you going to do this as a side income?

Run a beginners game at your local game store, and spend the money on giving away sets of dice to the new players, I think that's a charity act we can all agree on :)

  9. In my opinion you should buy yourself a beer. Or two. Or ten.
Best form of charity / investment :D

But Myrstyr's idea is great too.

  10. Thanks guys!

Fortunately Johnstone is down with my suggested charity (Doctors Without Bordes/Medecins Sans Frontiers)

The Food Bank is a great suggestion, and an institution I like to support, but I'd rather donate to an international charity with the international cast of contributors.

@ Myrstyr: Fortunately my financial situation have changed for the better since my older plans, and I'd feel bad profiting from donated contributions.

"...that makes you nasty thieving gaga."

I didn't realize you could predict the future. Or was this contemporary?
