Solomon Kame vs. Nyarlathotep

This is a campaign idea I've had kicking around for a couple of month that I'd like to run, but would much rather play in!

The Ingredients:
The Lamentations of the Flame Princess Weird Fantasy RPG
+
One of those epic Chaosium world-sprawling Call of Cthulhu adventures such as Masks of Nyarlathotep
+
And run it like a D&D game, with the time period being sometime in the 16th, 17th or 18th century.

Now I gotta see if I can find a copy of the 2e "A Mighty Fortress" sourcebook ...

  1. Have you seen this?

Made me twitch a little, but I've got enough shiny things vying for my attention as it is.

  2. I'D BUY THAT FOR A DOLLAR!

That would work well as a setting, I think. I'm not sure what you'd do with Australia, as it doesn't start to get settled until the late 1700's, but people were going there as early as the 1600's.

Of course, if you use the original Masks of Nyarlathotep, Australia's missing, so that solves the issue. ;)

  3. I'd love to see Solomon Kane kicking some nun-euclidean ass!

The problem is: you surely won't play with Kane in the party, yet the storys work mostly because of this lone wolf figure. How are you going to deal with that? What exactly, for you, is Solomon Kane, and how do you manage to transport this feeling into a D&D campaign consisting of, let's say, 5 players?
    Cheers,

  5. @ Scott: I've heard about it, I've got to get back into the Runequest thing!

@ Kelvin: Possibly even earlier from what I've read about "sea cucumber harvesters"; it would certainly make for a great lost world environment..especially if you jettison reality for this "unknown continent"...hmmmm!

@ Khouni: Actually I haven't read any Solomon Kane! I just get this vague Solomon Kane & period vibe from LOTFPWFRPG due to the artwork, font, and "implied setting" so that lead to me imagining using the aforementioned rpg system in the Solomon Kane period.

@ Hüth: I bet it'll have great artwork!

  6. Of course, by "people" I meant the presumably-European protagonists of your proposed game. Australia has been visited and settled fro thousands of years by non-Europeans. That was bad form on my part.

  7. @ kelvingreen: You're just lucky I didn't call you out on your colonialist and racist attitudes...just kidding! ;)

Oh, hang your head in shame, sir!

BTW, if you can't come up with A Mighty Fortress, shoot me an email.
