So if Elves are 90% Resistant to Sleep Spells...

...does that mean that Fairies are also 90% resistant to sleep spells?

This is probably a more pressing issue in my current Lyonnesse-inspired OD&D game where Elves are explicitally Fairies from Fairyland. (note: They are not the Fairies of the Victorian era and afterwards...)

  1. If elves in your setting are Fairies then yes, they would have 90% resistance to charm and sleep I would think.

  3. I agree, Pozatronic: I want to know where this game is being blogged about.

  4. And, with all due respect to R.W. I disagree. ;) Fairy is, above all, about randomness and variety. Elves are, fairies are not. Most fairies have issues with iron and steel, but centaurs, elves, and satyrs do not. Sylphs are free spirits and can think of nothing worse than living in chains or in a cage, while nixies are eager to enslave humans to labor in their underground grottoes. Satyrs travel the world(s) in search of new experiences and new songs to sing while dryads are literally rooted to a single area. Variety!

  5. I'd be inclined to make fairies 100% resistant to anything but the most esoteric spells cast by non-fairies, but susceptible to esoteria (like the bauble that fascinates the Thripsy shee)

  6. Many of the "anti-fairy" items and effects in my current campaign affect Dwarves, Gnomes, and Elves in addition to fairies, but all three are explicitly "fairies" under my house rules.. I've also run campaigns where, taking a cue from Three Hearts and Three Lions, those races could be Turned by Lawful Clerics, or where they had to use wooden-hafted weapons because iron burned them.

  7. Sounds like you've been studying Tolkien's "On Fairie Stories." And if you haven't, it's awesome that you think like him anyway.

  9. fairies are awesome and elves as fairies is the only way i like them right now that i can think of. bizarre manners and you follow them in the wrong direction for too long and realize youre in fairy-land and now you need to bake a cake with blood or something. replacing your babies with creepy intelligent ones. also if you turn your clothes inside out i think thats supposed to do something
